A Note from Ryan

Expectations are such a tricky thing.  We have expectations about all kinds of things.  I expect the sun to come up every morning.  I expect my roof to keep the rain out of my house.  I expect technology to work (which I am regularly disappointed with).  Most expectations are given to us by someone who is passionate about the product or service and wants us to have the same experience they have had.

I find myself personally convicted by the early disciples in Acts.  Last Sunday as we looked at what the early church devoted themselves to, what priorities they set for their lives, and what expectations they set for the new believers after Pentecost, I find myself doing quite a bit of reflection.  Am I devoting myself to the right things?  Is my life setting a positive example for those who witness how I live?  Am I giving accurate expectations to others when I invite them to join me in anything, but especially when I invite them to come to church?

The early church devoted themselves to serving / worshipping God, serving other believers and actively engaging in discipleship, and ministering to and evangelizing non-believers.  As I continue to reflect on how my life measures up to the bar that the early disciples set, I invite you all to join me in reflecting on what you are devoted to and what messages others receive through witnessing the way you live your life.

This week we'll continue our series in Acts as we look at chapters 3 and 4 and what the early church can teach us about how we are called to be bold in the way we live out our faith.

As always, my door is always open.  If you’d like to talk about anything, give me a call, shoot me an e-mail (Ryan.Hanson@TheLightKC.org), or stop by the church.

Looking forward to worshiping with you all Sunday at 10:00 AM,
Ryan Hanson

Re-Watch Sunday's Message

Message 3 in the sermon series "Acts: The Blueprint for the Church" by Ryan Hanson titled "Devoted"

Have you ever been invited to something that turned out to be vastly different than what was described to you? This is frustrating when it is a social event, but it can be eternally damaging when it deals with the church and faith. Today we’re going to look at what the disciples did in Acts 2 after inviting the people in Jerusalem to belief in Jesus as their LORD and Savior, to help the 3,000 people who joined grow into disciples within the church. We’re going to try to answer the question, "What is the purpose of the church and what should one expect of a church when they walk through the doors?”
